David Agee DrummingDavid has been playing the drums for over 20 years.  Born and raised on Hilton Head Island, SC, David’s parents exposed him to the music of Genesis, Steely Dan, and The Beatles.  These musical influences, along with his high school music ensembles and private lessons with Jeff Franklin, provided David with a firm foundation for his music career.

Upon graduating with his BA in Production Studies in the Performing Arts from Clemson University in 2008, David relocated to Chicago to continue his studies as a graduate student at the DePaul University School of Music as a Jazz Studies Performance major.  During his time as a student, David studied under Dr. Paul Buyer at Clemson, and Bob Rummage, Joel Spencer, and Bob Palmieri while at DePaul.  David’s studies and musical experiences have shaped him into a highly diverse, in-demand drummer in the Chicago music scene.

While in Chicago, David has worked with acts like the Chicago Jazz Orchestra, Glenn Miller Orchestra, JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound, Model Citizens, Arlen Music’s Velocity, Mucca Pazza, and throughout his career has shared the stage with the likes of: Phil Woods, Gordon Goodwin, Wayne Bergeron, Grammy nominated singer Margaret Carlson, Renaldo Domino, the Airmen of Note, Arthur Lipner, Lang Lang, and has opened for Jennifer Hudson.  

Some of David’s most notable performances include performing at the Chicago Jazz Festival, Disneyland All-American College Band, Georgia Dome and the Orange Bowl halftime performances, NIT Tournament at Madison Square Garden, as well as events for companies such as Google,, Lagunitas Brewing Company, and IPW Chicago.

While in Chicago, David held teaching positions at Niles West High School, Rauner College Prep, Fenwick High School, and Chicago School for the Arts.  He also instructed private drumset lessons at Altered Stage, Guitar Chicago, North Shore Music Institute, and maintained a private studio.  Students of David have gone on to study music at Monmouth College, Eastern Illinois University, Lawrence University, and McNally Smith College of Music.

In February 2017, David auditioned and won the drumset chair for the U.S. Navy Sea Chanters, the Navy’s official chorus.  After 8 weeks of boot camp, David and his wife, Rachael, relocated to Washington D.C. in late August.  David performs with the Sea Chanters on a regular basis while enjoying an active freelancing career in the DMV area.

From mainstream pop, to zydeco, to pit orchestras, David has proven that he can adapt to any musical situation and bring a fresh, creative element to it.  His love of music fuels him to inspire others through percussion performance and education.
